At least 111 musicians are yet to collect their Blank Media Levy royalties, two months after the Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA) completed its record K1.5 billion distribution in August 2025. The Society says it has made efforts to reach each affected member individually, but a significant number of funds remain unclaimed.

No Deadline for Claiming

COSOMA Public Relations Officer Catherine Mitungwi Chiumia confirmed that there is no expiry date attached to unclaimed royalties. The Society will continue to hold the funds until each rightful beneficiary comes forward. She noted that the unclaimed amounts relate only to musicians at this stage, as COSOMA is yet to publish beneficiary lists for other categories, including literary works and filmmakers.

Top Earners in the 2025 Distribution

The August 2025 distribution covered the period April 2024 to March 2025 under the Blank Media Levy. Top earners from that cycle included Elli Njuchi, Driemo, Wikise, Phyzix, Zeze Kingston, Saint Realest, Kell Kay, Gibo Pearson, and Malinga Mafia, among others.
